Golden Monkey Project
The golden snub-nose monkey is an old world monkey. It lives in a small area of temperate, mountainous forests of central and southwest China. These monkeys typically have a one breeding make, multiple breeding females for each pack. These monkeys start off the first 7 years of their lives they are a light tan color then they grow golden hairs when they are into adulthood. Their diet consists of lichens, young leaves, fruitsor seeds, buds mature leaves, herbs, bark, and flowers.Currently, they are endangered due to habitat loss due to food sources being harvested by humans. It is estimated that there are only around 8000 to 15000 monkeys left.
Zoo observations
I observed the orangutans at the zoo. Their scientific name is "Pongo". They are found in Asia. The orangutan population has declined by 50% in the last 50 years. The Bornean and Sumatran species of Orangutans are endangered. In the zoo, they like to spend their time rolling around and doing summersaults around the enclosure while carrying some sweet lettuce.
